The driver's account, line by line
Every amount to or from a driver is a line in Employee Payments, with a number, date, employee, type, nature, amount and note:

The trip line posts itself when the trip runs. The rest are recorded as they happen. The driver's current balance on his record shows the result as Dr or Cr.
What you can do
Three pay types
Monthly, fixed per trip, or percentage per trip, set on the driver.
Advances on the balance
Type Advance, nature Paid, with the payment method; the balance changes at once.
Customer cash he collected
Type Customer Payment; Given Back when he hands it in.
A statement to show him
Driver Statement for any period; Driver Run Sheet for the trips.
Recovery in the payroll run
Advances recovered; a driver whose net would be negative is blocked for review.
He sees it too
With app access, the driver sees earnings, advances and balance on his phone.

When a driver leaves
Set the last working date and mark him inactive. The payroll run blocks an inactive driver without a last working date, so the final settlement is done on purpose, not by accident.
A driver's month
- He runs trips; each one posts his earning to Employee Payments.
- An advance is given on the road and recorded; his balance updates.
- Bonus, an expense he paid, or customer cash he collected are recorded the same way.
- The payroll run computes his net, recovers advances and flags anything odd.
- Approve; the payslip and the Driver Statement show the full picture; the balance carries forward.
