UAE VAT 201

UAE VAT for transport companies: the VAT 201 built from your invoices

Standard-rated freight, zero-rated exports, reverse charge on certain customers and suppliers, input tax on fuel and hired trucks. NShine ERP tags each invoice as you raise it and sums the boxes for the period, with the voucher list behind each one.

What the VAT 201 needs from a transport business

The return asks for the same handful of totals every period. For a transporter they come from hundreds of small documents: freight invoices to customers, bills from truck owners, fuel station bills, garage bills. Getting them wrong usually means one of these:

  • A reverse-charge customer billed as standard rated
  • A zero-rated international movement counted as taxable
  • Input tax on fuel bills left out because the bills were never recorded
  • A total with no invoice list behind it when the auditor asks

Computed

Under the boxes, the report lists every invoice in the period with date, voucher number, party, box (OUTPUT_STANDARD, OUTPUT_ZERO, INPUT, RCM), taxable amount and tax. Each box drills down to its invoices. Export xlsx or print PDF for the accountant.

A period, worked through

For any period the report reads like this. Standard-rated customer invoices with their taxable amount and the tax on it. Zero-rated invoices with no tax. Reverse-charge customer invoices with tax nil. Input bills from suppliers, such as fuel stations, at their rate. Net VAT payable at the bottom. Every invoice counted in a box is in the list below the boxes, with its voucher number.

That is the whole return, and it took a date range and a Search.

From invoice to return

  1. Raise each customer invoice from its bookings with the right tax rate; tick Apply RCM for reverse-charge customers.
  2. Record supplier and purchase bills with their tax rate; credit fuel creates station bills on its own.
  3. Open UAE VAT 201, set the period, Search.
  4. Check the boxes against the invoice list; drill into anything that looks off.
  5. Export xlsx or PDF and file on the FTA portal.
